Are you about to visit Orlando, Florida? Are you an avid cyclist? If so, then the West Orange Trail is the spot to visit while you’re in the city. This unique trail offers idyllic vistas making it a great spot for a relaxing bike ride.

Here’s what you need to know before you hit the trail, and don’t forget to grab your bike rentals from The Ride Experience for great deals and gear!

Let’s dive right in…

How Long is The Trail?

The West Orange Trail runs 22 miles long. Of course, you don’t have to ride the entire trail to enjoy its beauty. The trail starts at Killarney Station on SR50 just west of Oakland, and down through Winter Garden and ends at Welch Road.

Killarney Station, where the trail starts, has plenty of parking, a set of restrooms, refreshments, and even a playground for the little ones. Once you’re finished with the trail, you can even park your bike and check out the Oakland Nature Preserve with a short half mile stroll along the boardwalk which offers views of the lake. It’s the perfect spot to start your bike ride.

If you’re looking for water vistas, then connect to the South Lake Trail which includes a section of the Florida Coast-to-Coast Trail.

Other trailheads of the West Orange Trail include the Oakland Outpost, Ingram Outpost, Chapin Station, McCormick Outpost, Clarcona Horseman’s Park, and the Tildenville Outpost.

Trail Surfaces

The West Orange Trail in Orlando, Florida is a fairly easy ride. Most of the trail is paved asphalt, which makes it great for novices and advanced cyclists alike, but it also includes parts in concrete, dirt, and woodchips so be prepared if you plan to ride the entire trail.

Novices or Advanced Cyclists?

Both novices and advanced cyclists will find the West Orange Trail a comfortable and enjoyable ride. Parts of the trail do present more of a challenge, but with appropriate trail bikes, it should not be an issue. Keep that in mind during your bike rentals.

Best Part of The Trail for A Bike Ride

Every bike trail has its own premium spot. For the West Orange Trail, we prefer the trail section just five miles to the east of Killarney Station. The trail goes over an old railroad bridge near Florida’s Turnpike, and on by the Briley Farm (adorable!) and into the historic downtown area of Winter Garden.

If you’re feeling extra adventurous, you can check out another 1.5 of trail through the west side of Killarney Station and connect down into South Lake Trail. On this trail, you’ll find a variety of twists, turns, and hills. However, a word of advice, it is crowded with children and tourists!
